This specialization qualifies the candidate to take part in developing and improving manufacturing processes, production systems as well product development and design with focus on choosing suitable combinations of materials and processes.
The candidate will get a detailed insight into the basic physical and chemical mechanisms in manufacturing processes. This includes cross disciplinary topics involving heat transfer, mechanics and materials science. In connection with this, the candidate will have the possibility of using advanced numerical modeling tools in both process and materials modelling as well as in production planning.
The manufacturing processes include both thermal and mechanical processing of materials of metal and polymers, net-shape processes, joining processes as well metrology. The analyses comprise application of theoretical, numerical and experimental methods.
