New Professor in supply chain management

Omera Khan from Management Science aims at developing not just new tools but also a new understanding of supply chain risk management

The world is changing faster than ever - be it technologically, politically or economically. At the same time, the development of an increasingly globalized society means that companies today are much more susceptible to changes taking place thousands of miles away. The business practice of yesterday, definitely do not need to business practice of tomorrow.

From natural disasters to political upheavals from security threats in cyberspace to new markets and limited resource availability: The only thing we can say for sure is that we live in turbulent times, and it is particularly visible in the supply chain management.

A business that is very susceptible to changes in many parts of the world. A chain that, like any other chain is no stronger than its weakest link, and last but not least, a business that still makes use of management models, which are often designed for a world of relative stability where it was easier to predict and make forecasts.

These traditional models are less effective in today's international business environment, which requires responsiveness, flexibility and the ability to adapt to changes on both sides of the supply chain.

Therefore, the development of Danish companies' supply chains to suit a rapidly changing international society should have a high priority thus ensuring future competitiveness to continued profitability.

"Professor Omera Khan is a significant researcher in the field of supply chain management with a background in some of the world's leading research communities in the UK. She will further the practical development of supply chain management - an area where engineers in particular can contribute to the development of modern management tools integrating the increasing need for dynamic modeling". says Director of DTU Management, Sean Solomon.
