Net-Sights speed up the innovation within the clean tech industry

Data analysis replaces luck with new data driven platform that can identify the rights business partners for clean tech innovation.

The project Net-Sights is collaboration between the State of Green, CLEAN and Engineerings Systems here at the department and it is supported by Industriens fond.

The aim of the project is to analyze large amounts of data from the clean-tech industry as a basis for a new platform that allows cleantech companies and cleantech projects to find the right corporative relations for clean tech innovation.

Replacing luck with data analyses
Common to many large companies, is that they have had the opportunity to establish strategically important relations as a base for their growth - and not rarely this has happened by chance.

Novo's success, for example, can be traced back to two things that have always been a mainstay of the Danish business: beer and wine. The brewing industry has contributed technical knowledge of fermentation for the manufacture of artificial insulin, while access to large amounts of pancreas from pigs makes Denmark an ideal place to study insulin. In Novo’s case luck played a part in having the right resources (and partners to ensure access to resources) at hand when needed. By anticipating needs for relationships and resources (including knowledge) and identifying where it can be found. Net-Sights wants to ensure that new clean-tech business will have the same opportunities - and not having to rely on luck, "explains project coordinator Pedro Parraguez Ruiz.

Identifying future partners
Therefore, it is the goal of Net-Sights to identify the right partners for new clean tech business both in areas that have already been identified and in areas where corporation between branches will be a first:

"We gather large amounts of publicly available company data form all over the clean tech Industry and search for similarities to match companies with partners. In the short term Net-Sights can help find the best partner to already acknowledged needs and in the long run Net-sights may identify and recommend new types of relationships." Says project leader Professor Anja Maier.

The engine of Net-sights is the mapping and comparison of all available data on the (initially) Danish companies working with clean tech. By mapping not only what the companies produce, but also how they produce, whom they already work with and the expertise the operation requires  the Net-sights platform learn how different industries work together today and find common denominators that make it possible to establish new types of cooperative relationships in the future.
