Traffic safety

Worldwide, more than 1.3 million people are killed in road traffic crash annually, and the number of slightly or seriously injured is even higher. Therefore, ensuring safe transport for all is important for public health and society in general. To support development of targeted, efficient and research-based policies and preventive measures, DTU Management conducts research in the field of road safety.

The research covers well-know safety-critical aspects such as young road users, vulnerable road users, speeding, distraction and drunk driving, as well as emerging safety challenges associated with EVs, e-bikes, e-scooters, and other new transport modes and services.

The research focusses on road users' behaviour, capacities and competences; ergonomics and vehicle characteristics; infrastructure design; the interplay between the various elements. The research covers a wide range of methods and data, such as (in-depth) crash analysis, surveys, register-based studies, evaluation and intervention studies, and experimental studies, including VR and simulation.

The research is conducted in close collaboration with the Danish Ministry of Transport and other key national and international stakeholders.
