On February 5th, Professor Helene Friis Ratner held her inaugural lecture at DTU Management for an audience filled with other members of the institute and external partners.
Digital technologies are transforming society. Generative AI, automation, and new forms of prediction raise pressing questions about how to organize everything from small businesses to universities. As these technologies mediate communication, learning, and decision-making, they transform expertise and accountability.
In her inaugural lecture, which you can watch in the video above, Helene Friis Ratner examined how recent developments in AI - ranging from controversial prototypes to more accepted uses - are changing public organizations and education. Studying them helps understand shifting ideas of what is ethical, legitimate, and desirable. The lecture offers a forward-looking research agenda for how universities, as a societal actor, can advance the use of digital technology in responsible and context-sensitive ways.
At the heart of this vision is a commitment to democratic values and to the everyday practices of the people impacted by AI.
