Science and technology make a profound impact on societal welfare and human well-being. Research in Technology and Business Studies Division addresses managerial, organisational and societal opportunities and risks that innovation provides. At the receiving end of our research are private businesses, public organisations, policymakers and NGOs that aim to create organisations and societies that are both liveable and technologically advanced. Our empirical focus is practice-oriented and dynamic, i.e., we explore relations among policy discourse, strategy, technological requirements, management practices and social life across different scales.

Methodologically, the division’s expertise ranges from field studies to quantitative data analysis. Theoretically and analytically, the research is rooted in organisational studies, application engineering and science and technology studies (STS). We publish in key journals within these fields, sincluding Social Studies of Science; Science, Technology and Human Values; Journal of Cultural Economy; Organisation Studies, Strategic Organisation, and International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction. Our faculty have attracted grants from private and public excellence funds in the EU and Denmark, as well as from applied funding sources. We will continue to strengthen our existing research areas and simultaneously be open to new areas of collaboration with current and new partners. We are prioritising excellence grants and will participate in collaborative grants of a more mission-oriented type.

Our societal impact is also visible in our frequent contributions to public debate, public commissions of trust, invitations to act as experts in media and conference contexts, requests to advice organisations, etc. We have formed networks with industry, public sector and civil society actors to ensure dissemination of insights and discuss research results.
