Science and Technology Studies

In the Science and Technology Studies section, our mission is to contribute to a better understanding of how science, technology and society impact each other.
We do so by studying the social and ethical effects of scientific knowledge-making and emerging technologies. Utilizing experimental methodologies to harness our curiosity, we explore how different forms of knowledge and technologies are valued or disregarded. One of our research focuses is human-centered digitalisation including how data and artificial intelligence change responsibility and expertise in today's society.
We also develop new methods to understand how scientists and engineers, and the things they create, change people’s daily lives for better or worse. In the Human-Centred Engineering Lab (ECHO Lab) fellow scientists and the public convene. We work with scientists, engineers, and societal stakeholders of different kinds to promote responsible innovation and public engagement. Our teaching centres on understanding and assessing the social and environmental impact of technology.
In 2025, the section won a prize from the Young Academy (Det Unge Akademi) for being one of the best research environments in Denmark. This award shows our commitment to fostering an environment where early-career researchers can thrive. We are proud of our supportive scholarly culture, which encourages teamwork, individual ambition, excellence, and creativity.
